CLC Grit – Lawrence
Meet the Director of CLC Grit,
Betsy Williams Dougherty
My name is Betsy Williams Dougherty and I am the Director of CLC Grit and Girls Lacrosse at Centercourt Lawrence. I have been playing or coaching lacrosse for most of my life. Growing up outside Philadelphia, one of the original hot beds for women's lacrosse, cultivated in me a deep appreciation for this game and its history going back to the Native American roots.
After high school, I went on to play at Penn State University where I was a four-year varsity player and captain of my team senior year. My passion for the game grew through college and I went on to pursue competing with the US Team. I played with the US Team for 10 years, including several tours and three World Cup tournaments finishing my playing career as the captain of the winning Gold Medal team in 1993.
My coaching career began as a college student helping at our summer camps at Penn State. Little did I know, that experience would ignite the beginning of a long career in teaching and coaching the game that I love so much. I have coached at every level of the game from Kindergarten to Division I college for over 30 years and I still feel the same thrill when my players learn a new skill or master something they never thought possible.
