Lou Clemente

DIRECTOR OF BASEBALL & SOFTBALL – GILLETTE & MORRISTOWN

My favorite sports memory/moment/event is… competing in the American Athletic Conference homerun derby when I was a senior at Rutgers. Growing up as a kid my favorite day of the year was the MLB homerun derby, and being able to compete and make it to the finals of a collegiate homerun derby is my favorite and one of my proudest moments as a player.

In addition to being our Director of Baseball, Coach Lou Clemente is the current head coach at Union High School.

Previously, he served as the head Junior Varsity baseball coach at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights NJ. Since joining Chris Roof and his staff Coach Clemente has brought the highlanders to back to back Union County finals appearances. Coach Clemente also takes the time to help out with the Varsity, and was a part of a coaching staff that won the 2018 Union County Championship.

Clemente’s prior coaching staff goes further than just coaching teams. He was a private baseball instructor at D-Bat for 7 years (2014-2021). Clemente worked with all ages from 5-18 developing both baseball, and softball players in all 3 aspects of the game. Hitting was his specialty, but also worked on pitching and fielding as well.

Coach Clemente prior to Governor Livingston was an assistant coach for Rutgers University (Big Ten) from (2015-2017). Clemente worked with the hitters, and the outfielders on a day to day basis, as well as being the camp coordinator, and helping out with baseball operations. During his time coaching in the Big Ten Conference, Clemente was a part of multiple players that then went on to get drafted and play at the next level.

Prior to coaching, Clemente played his collegiate baseball under legendary Rutgers baseball coach Fred Hill (2012-2014)l. Clemente played 2 seasons at Rutgers University (Big East, American Athletic Conference) with one of his finest moments being competing in the American Athletic Conference Homerun Derby, and being a finalist. Clemente received a scholarship to play at Rutgers from his 2 seasons at Brookdale Community College (2010-2012) playing under Coach Johnny Johnson. At Brookdale, Clemente was a Second team NJCAA All American selection, and a first team NJCAA All region selection.

Prior to collegiate baseball, Clemente played his high school baseball at Roselle Catholic under Coaches Joe Kropa, and John Schmitt. Clemente was a 3 time First Team All Union County Selection, and a Third Team All State Team his Junior Year.
