My favorite sports event/memory/moment is … playing in the 2012 NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship Game as the first women’s team in Montclair State University history to take part in a national championship game!
Emily Burd joins Centercourt with more than 15 years of experience playing field hockey and five years of experience coaching at the youth through high school level. As a hockey player, Emily continued her love of the sport at the collegiate level where she played for Montclair State University and keyed a defensive unit that ranked among the best in Division III during the 2013 season. While at Montclair, she made three trips to the NJAC finals, winning twice in 2012 and 2013. Additionally, her runs continued to the NCAA DIII Field Hockey Sweet 16, Elite 8 and National Championship games during her years at MSU. She received the NFCHA Gladiator Award by SGI/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad during 2011-2013 and in 2013, she was named to the District II Women’s At-Large First Team by Capital One Academic All-America Program.
After graduating from MSU in 2015, she stays up to date with the changing field hockey rules and game by officiating recreation youth leagues, and middle through high school games in Sussex, Morris and Warren counties through her NJSIAA certification. She is passionate about bringing the game to the youth players and enjoys being the head coach for the Mount Olive Recreation youth field hockey team, bringing new programs and playing opportunities to the Mount Olive School District. Throughout her hockey years, she has coached numerous high school and collegiate field hockey camps and clinics and looks forward to continuing sharing the love for the sport of field hockey at Centercourt.
