Field Hockey

My favorite sports memory/moment/event is...  a tie between my first league title as a coach, and also the first phone call I got from a player I had coached since they were 11 to tell me they were getting their first international cap in a series.

Brett Clay has been instructing field hockey since 1993.  He was head coach at Riverside Hockey club Durban South Africa. The ladies 1st team that he coached won the premier league in South Africa, being the second-highest level of play behind the national team as well as the Elite club championship. He was also the assistant Coach for the men’s 1st team when they won the premier league.

Brett Clay has worked with numerous field Hockey players who have gone on to compete at national level. These include several players who have competed in the Olympic teams.

As the assistant coach for the USA Women’s national Indoor Team, Brett Clay was involved in the training of the players. He was brought up with Southern hemisphere style of play and provides a unique perspective to the players on the team. He also works one-on -one with athletes, giving technical analysis and practical solutions to any game.

He was involved with youth programs which involved children as young as age 5 up to 16.  He was also involved in Riverside Reach program aimed at youth players 14-16 years of age. Additionally Brett over the past 15 years has spoken and coached at many school - based hockey programs.

Brett Clay brings extensive experience and achievements to the game of field Hockey:  150 premier league games, 10 seasons coaching in premier league, FIH coaching level 2. He attended the Elite coaching clinic by Maurits Hendriks and FIH master level coaching in World Hockey.
