My favorite sports event/memory/moment is... I was playing an age group tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was not seeded. I ending up reaching the finals in both singles and doubles, winning the doubles. This was my first final abroad. That tournament was a key turning point in my tennis career.
Shihab started playing tennis at 6 years old. Shortly after, he competed in various ITF Junior tournaments throughout South East Asia for five years, representing his home country. Winning became his motivation. Shihab gained a new perspective for the game through his travels. It sharpened his dedication by learning to stay focused in different environments. During this time, Shihab was top ranked for his country. He received a tennis summer scholarship at the age of 14 for a tennis academy run by Happy Bhalla and Jim Pyle to play in East Hamptons Indoor Tennis in Hamptons, NY. Prior to becoming a tennis coach, Shihab worked with special needs high school students for 9 years. This confirmed his passion to work with individuals; encouraging them to pursue their dreams. These experiences solidified his philosophy as a coach - make tennis fun while emitting passion for the sport through his energy and motivation to push the individual to the next level.
